Send a photo of both bottom corners on WhatsApp or call. We replace both cables, and the drums if worn or cracked, then re-balance and test the door.
What are the signs of a garage door cable or drum problem?
- The door hangs crooked, lower on one side than the other.
- A cable is hanging loose beside the door or has come off the drum at the top.
- You can see frayed strands or rust where the cable attaches at the bottom corners.
- The door makes a grinding or popping sound near the top corners as it moves.
- The door went up partway and stopped at an angle.
How to get a quote
- Send a photo of both bottom corners and the drums at the top (the wheels on each end of the spring bar) on WhatsApp or by text, or call us.
- We reply with a written quote: cables, or cables and drums if the drums are damaged.
- The technician secures the door, releases spring tension safely, replaces the cables (and drums if approved), re-winds the springs, levels the door and runs the safety test.
If the door also came out of its tracks, or a spring turns out to be broken, he sends a photo and a quote for that part, and waits for your OK.
Why do garage door cables rust so fast in Miami?
The bottom of a garage door sits right where water collects. Summer downpours blow under the door, garage floors get hosed down, and in low-lying neighborhoods water can stand in the driveway after a storm. Add salt air near the coast and the bottom brackets and cable ends rust long before the rest of the door looks old.
Two things help:
- Keep the bottom seal in good shape so water doesn’t pool against the brackets.
- Ask for the cables and bottom brackets to be checked on every tune-up. Catching rust early is a smaller job than a cable that snaps with the car inside.
Cable trouble is often a symptom of a broken spring, so we look at both on every visit.
We do this work across Miami-Dade and Broward, including Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Doral, Kendall, Westchester, Miramar and Pembroke Pines.

Common questions
How much does garage door cable replacement cost?
SolvTek Garage Doors quotes every cable repair individually, in writing, because the price depends on what broke. Cables alone are one job; if the drums (the grooved wheels on the ends of the spring bar) are worn, cracked or chewed up by the cable, they are replaced too. Rusted bottom brackets, a door that came off its tracks, or a spring that broke at the same time also change the quote. Send a photo of both bottom corners and the drums on WhatsApp, and we reply with a written quote.
Why replace both cables if only one snapped?
The cables carry the door together and age the same way. A cable that snapped from rust usually has a twin with the same rust at the bottom bracket. Replacing both keeps the door level and lifting evenly, which also protects the springs and opener.
Can I use the door with a loose or broken cable?
No. With one cable gone, the door lifts on one side only, twists and can come out of the tracks or fall. Leave it where it is, unplug the opener, keep people and cars clear, and send us a photo of both bottom corners of the door.
What makes a garage door cable break?
Rust at the bottom bracket is the most common cause here, because water and salt air sit at the floor line. A broken spring also makes the cable go slack and jump off the drum. Hitting the door with a car, or running the opener when the door is stuck, can fray or snap it too.
Do you check the springs during a garage door cable repair?
Yes. A cable failure often comes with a worn or broken spring. If a spring needs replacing, the technician sends you a photo and a quote for it, and nothing extra happens until you approve it.
