A kit does not give the door a product approval, so we tell you when a new wind-rated door is the better buy. Send a photo of the door and its label for a written quote.
Why does the garage door matter in a hurricane?
The garage door is the largest opening in most homes. If wind pushes it in, pressure can enter the house and push up on the roof from inside. A door that flexes too much can also come out of its tracks. Strengthening or replacing that door is one of the most useful things you can do before storm season.
What does a hurricane bracing kit do, and what doesn’t it do?
It does: add reinforcement to your existing door so it resists flexing in high winds better than it does today.
It doesn’t: turn an unrated door into a rated one. Rated garage doors carry a Miami-Dade NOA or Florida Product Approval as a complete product, with the label on the door. Bracing doesn’t add that label, and it usually doesn’t earn the opening-protection credit on a wind-mitigation report.

How to get a quote
- Send a photo of the whole door from inside and the label on the door’s inside edge (if there is one) on WhatsApp or by text, or call us.
- We tell you whether a kit fits your door, or whether a new rated door makes more sense, and send you a written quote.
- The technician installs the kit, checks the springs and balance (bracing adds some weight), adjusts the opener and runs the auto-reverse test.
Bracing or a new rated door?
| Your situation | Our usual advice |
|---|---|
| Door in good shape, keeping it a few more years | Bracing kit |
| Door has a rating label but you want extra peace of mind | Ask us; often a tune-up is what it needs |
| No rating label, and you want the wind-mitigation credit | New impact-rated door (see impact doors) |
| Door is dented, rusted or old | New rated door |
| Selling the home soon | New rated door shows up well on inspection |
Not sure? Ask us to quote both. A new wind-rated door comes with new tracks and springs and haul-away of the old door, and it is permitted through our general contractor partner. See new garage doors.
When should I book hurricane bracing?
Book it in the spring or early summer. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and when a watch goes up, every installer gets the same calls at once. We quote in writing the same way before and after a storm.
We do this work across Miami-Dade and Broward, including Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Doral, Kendall, Westchester, Miramar and Pembroke Pines.

Common questions
How much does garage door hurricane bracing cost?
SolvTek Garage Doors quotes every bracing kit individually, in writing, because the price depends on the door: its width (single or double), its height, how it is built, and whether the springs need adjusting for the added weight. Send a photo of the whole door from inside and the label on its inside edge on WhatsApp, and we reply with a written quote. If your door can't take a kit or would be better replaced, we tell you that before any work, and we can quote a new wind-rated door too.
Does bracing make my door hurricane-rated?
No. Bracing strengthens the door, but it doesn't give it a Miami-Dade NOA or Florida Product Approval. A rated door is tested and approved as a complete product. If you want the opening-protection credit on a wind-mitigation report, you need a new impact-rated door (large-missile tested), not just a stronger or wind-rated one.
Will garage door bracing lower my home insurance?
Usually not by itself. The opening-protection credit on a wind-mitigation inspection is based on rated products, and a brace added to an unrated door generally isn't one. What typically counts is an impact-rated door (large-missile tested); a door rated only for wind pressure generally doesn't earn the credit. Ask your inspector or insurance agent about your policy.
Should I brace my garage door or replace it?
Bracing makes sense when the door is in good shape, you plan to keep it a few more years, and you mainly want more strength for the coming season. Replacing makes more sense when the door is old, dented or has no rating label, when you want the wind-mitigation credit (that takes an impact-rated door), or when you're selling the home. Send us a photo of the door and its label and we'll tell you which we'd choose.
When should I book garage door hurricane bracing?
Well before a storm. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and once a watch is issued everyone calls at once. Spring and early summer are the best time.
